We're looking for a Production Manager who lives and breathes festival sites.
You'll need to already have an understanding of infrastructure, plant and build sequencing. You'll have confidence in briefing crews, collaborating with (and sometimes challenging) suppliers and spotting problems before they hold up the build, with an eye for the finished site.
With support from the Head of Production and a Site Coordinator, you'll lead the site advance for our outdoor shows. You'll be responsible for site planning, supplier management, budgets, delivery and derig, working closely with our technical, operations, creative and safety leads.
Planning and Project Control - own the critical path across the outdoor portfolio, including deadlines, dependencies and shared crew, plant and supplier requirements. Run supplier production meetings and close out actions. Keep drawings and internal and external production packs current. Agree practical build sequences and brief the delivery teams. Flag risks early to the Head of Production with options and costs.
Site Infrastructure and Supplier Advance - Assess access, ground conditions and available services during site visits. Advance structures, fencing, trackway, power, water, waste, welfare, plant and communications. Confirm specifications, quantities, labour, ballast, transport and installation responsibilities. Resolve infrastructure routes, accessible routes, vehicle movements, storage and contractor interfaces before suppliers arrive.
Budgets - Prepare project budgets and compare quotations against the full scope. Work within agreed purchasing authority, obtain approval for variations before committing spend, and keep commitments and forecasts current. Reconcile hire periods, fuel, damage charges and invoices against what was ordered and delivered. Timely reconciliation for settlements are required.
Venue and Heritage Requirements - Translate venue limitations into supplier and crew instructions covering public access, load limits, surface protection and sensitive buildings. Track production inputs for venue approvals and Safety Advisory Group submissions with the relevant leads.
Site Team Leadership and Site Delivery - Lead site production on assigned shows with the allocated Site Managers and crew. Coordinate mark-out, build, live maintenance and derig (ensuring the site is returned as we found it), working with technical, creative, operations and safety leads. You’ll continuously monitor the site, check installed work and close defects. Attend daily briefings, adapt the schedule as conditions change, and give teams clear handovers and appropriate breaks.
Creative, Signage and Site Facilitation - Work with the creative team to help facilitate their site-intersecting delivery - think signage, decor, scaffold and furniture. Oversee the signage schedule across operational, wayfinding, accessibility, branding and venue needs, confirming approvals, quantities and installation positions. Work with the site coordinator, site office manager and accreditation manager to advance and deliver site offices and backstage facilities, including workspace, connectivity, radios, catering, accommodation, equipment and consumables.
Paperwork and Project Closure - Secure supplier RAMS, insurance and structural information for timely review. Coordinate inspections, completion records and readiness checks with the appropriate leads. Own site load-out, off-hires, fuel measurements and collection arrangements, equipment checks and reinstatement through to agreed handback. Capture lessons to implement in future and log final costs for reconciliation.
Substantial practical experience building and striking outdoor event sites, plus ownership of the advance and budget for relevant projects.
Sound judgement on infrastructure, ground protection, delivery access, plant selection and build sequencing, including when specialist advice is needed.
Credibility with site crews and contractors, and confidence challenging incomplete work, unrealistic promises or gaps in a quote. Ability to negotiate confidently and professionally with suppliers.
The ability to interpret scaled site drawings, support accurate mark-out and communicate changes clearly.
Reliable cost control, organised project records and strong spreadsheet skills, including Google Workspace.
A calm, visible leadership style and the ability to delegate clearly, support your team and follow work through to completion.
We welcome experienced Site Managers who already take responsibility for advancing and budgets, as well as established Production Managers.
CAD drafting skills and a driving license are a necessity. Please do not apply for this job without them.
Heritage experience and relevant safety training are useful additions. The role requires availability for agreed summer site periods, including weekends and time away from home.
