The Role

Kobalt Music, the music company of the future, is looking for someone with strong administrative and operational experience to join an international team that manages the global song registration process on behalf of our clients. Your role would ensure our repertoire of songs in Australia and New Zealand are correctly registered, allowing royalties to flow to our clients as their songs are played live, on radio, or streamed online.

The ideal candidate is someone who is self-motivated and proactive with an interest in data, systems, and technology platforms. To be successful in the role, you also need excellent communication and great interpersonal skills, as well as a track record of working to tight deadlines, while remaining optimistic and persistent to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.

What You’ll Do

• You establish and maintain strong relationships with Performing Rights Organisations (PROs) and Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) in the Asia-Pacific region, specifically with APRA AMCOS.
• You work across different time zones and collaborate closely with the Hong Kong, London, and US-based Copyright teams, maintaining best practices for song and agreement registrations as well as conflict resolution processes.
• You engage with societies, publishers, and other organisations in the Asia-Pacific region to communicate claims on Kobalt’s repertoire.
• You work closely with Kobalt’s global Writer & Publisher Relations department to ensure the successful administration of client accounts, including but not limited to registration submissions, song dispute management and resolution, and catalogue maintenance to ensure accurate and timely royalty collections.
• You proactively identify any registration issues or delays that may impact our clients, problem-solve how to address them, and see them through to resolution in line with society distribution rules and processes.
• You undertake side projects with other team members on specialist topics, including compiling and distributing song charts to internal stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

Preferred:

• Previous experience in music publishing is not required, but highly desirable. Most importantly, you can demonstrate why you have a genuine interest in music publishing, and especially Copyright.
• You may have relevant administrative experience, perhaps working in database management or using Excel, manipulating and analysing data, especially numerical data.
• You are an excellent communicator with a high level of written and spoken English.
• You are a detail-driven self-starter with strong organisation and prioritisation skills.

Additional Skills That Could Add Value:

• Written and spoken Cantonese and/or Mandarin.
• Experience working with Performing Rights Organisations, Collective Management Organisations, publishers, or rights holders.
• Experience working across international teams and multiple time zones.
• An interest in music rights, royalty collection, data, systems, and technology platforms.

What Success Looks Like

By Month 3: Building Copyright Knowledge

You’ll have developed a good understanding of Kobalt’s copyright systems, registration processes, and the wider responsibilities of the Copyright team. You’ll be supporting song and agreement registrations, learning APRA AMCOS processes, and building relationships with colleagues across Copyright and Writer & Publisher Relations.

By Month 6: Managing Core Registration Workflows

You’ll be confidently managing core registration and catalogue administration tasks, communicating with societies and publishers, and identifying issues that may affect the accurate and timely collection of royalties. You’ll be able to progress routine queries and registration issues with increasing independence.

By Year 1: Trusted Copyright Team Member

You’ll be a trusted member of the Copyright team, independently managing registration workflows across Australia and New Zealand and seeing issues through to resolution. You’ll maintain strong relationships with APRA AMCOS and other industry partners while contributing to accurate catalogue administration and timely royalty collection for our clients.
