Data Visualization Developer

Job Description

We are UMG, the Universal Music Group. We are the world’s leading music company. In everything we do, we are committed to artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship. We own and operate a broad array of businesses engaged in recorded music, music publishing, merchandising, and audiovisual content in more than 60 countries. We identify and develop recording artists and songwriters, and we produce, distribute and promote the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful music to delight and entertain fans around the world.

How we LEAD:

Build the visualization layer of UMG’s Consumer Data Products—designing and developing advanced, interactive data experiences that sit at the intersection of design, data, and front-end engineering. This role translates analytical complexity into intuitive visual systems that power product adoption, enable insight discovery, and shape how the business understands consumers and fans.

Embedded within the Consumer Data Products organization, you will partner with product managers, designers, data engineers, and data scientists to develop the front-end visualization frameworks and custom components that bring data products to life. You will create reusable widgets, exploratory interfaces, and high-performance visualizations that scale across products and use cases.

Beyond execution, you will influence product strategy by helping define how insights are surfaced, compared, and explored—turning visualization from a presentation layer into a core product capability. With a background spanning front-end development, data fluency, and visual design, you will help evolve UMG’s analytics from static dashboards into dynamic tools that guide decision-making for labels, artists, and internal teams.

How you’ll CREATE:

  • Design and develop advanced, interactive data visualizations using modern front-end technologies to support UMG’s Consumer Data Products and analytics tools.
  • Build reusable visualization components, widgets, and patterns that scale across products, teams, and analytical use cases.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Data Engineering, and Data Science to translate analytical requirements, models, and datasets into intuitive, high-performance visual experiences.
  • Work fluently with data using Python and/or R to prototype analyses, validate logic, and collaborate effectively with data scientists and analysts.
  • Integrate outputs from statistical models, forecasting tools, and ML systems into front-end visualizations in ways that are interpretable and decision-oriented.
  • Optimize visualizations for large, complex, and dynamic datasets, balancing performance, clarity, and usability.
  • Contribute to visualization standards, design systems, and best practices that improve consistency, accessibility, and adoption across data products.
  • Enable exploratory and comparative analysis through thoughtful interaction design, supporting segmentation, trend analysis, and pattern discovery.
  • Influence product thinking by advising on how insights should be surfaced, contextualized, and prioritized within consumer data products.
  • Iterate on visual experiences based on user feedback, behavioral usage data, and evolving product strategy.

Bring your VIBE:

  • 2+ years of experience developing advanced data visualizations and interactive front-end applications, ideally within analytics, data products, or decision-support tools.
  • Strong proficiency in modern front-end technologies (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, React or similar frameworks) and visualization libraries (e.g., D3, Observable, WebGL-based frameworks).
  • Working fluency in Python and/or R, with the ability to explore datasets, prototype analyses, and collaborate effectively with data scientists and analysts.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, APIs, and analytical workflows, including integrating model outputs and large datasets into front-end applications.
  • A strong visual and interaction design sensibility, with experience translating complex data into clear, intuitive, and usable visual experiences.
  • Comfort operating in a product-driven environment, partnering closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to ship scalable, user-centered solutions.
  • Ability to reason about performance, accessibility, and usability when building data-heavy front-end experiences.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain analytical concepts, trade-offs, and design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
