The A Side: A Day in The Life  

In October 2024, Universal Music UK brought together two iconic music labels, Island and EMI Records, to create Island EMI Label Group. The new powerhouse label group is designed to help deliver our strategy to support artists from the wider Universal family, linking closely with US label partners Republic Corps, and Interscope Capitol Labels Group.

Blending these labels brings Island's unique ethos of launching pioneering and influential global artists such as Bob Marley, U2, Amy Winehouse, Hozier and The Last Dinner Party, with EMI's illustrious history and roster of diverse acts from the UK, including Sir Elton John, Queen and Metallica.

The label group is also home to a star-studded US and international roster which includes artists such as Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Drake, Lewis Capaldi, Noah Kahan and Chappell Roan.

The B Side: Skills & Experience  

Be organised & diligent:

  • Key marketing support (in all facets) to the Strategic Marketing team working on some of Island EMI’s most prestigious established acts, initially defined as U2, Elton John, & other priority acts

  • Assistance in delivering products and creative in a timely fashion to support said artist campaigns

  • Assist in managing all administrative elements of these campaigns

  • Help co-ordinate the respective teams, allowing us to deliver the best campaigns possible

  • Assist the marketing lead(s) in building and project managing campaigns with paramount attention to detail

  • Assist diligently managing budgets on each of the campaigns with a key focus on expectations and length of a campaign

  • Assist the marketing lead(s) in making use of all reporting systems, UMG software tools and data points to regularly assess performance

Be creative & focused:

  • Be the marketing point person for the Island and EMI individual e-Commerce stores

  • As required, provide support to the Island and EMI team members embedded at IELG from UMG’s catalogue team (UMR)

Be communicative & market-aware:

  • Develop strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders across an artist project including the Island EMI Records team, artist managers, central UMG departments and freelance consultants

  • Assist in sending out communications & updates, which should continuously relay campaign specifics to all stakeholders across an artist project

  • Remain curious and stay up to date with competitor campaigns, market developments and emerging trends

Person Specification 

  • Experience of working within a high-performing team

  • Ideally experience of working in a marketing department at record label

  • A creative and critical thinker with problem-solving ability

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and client facing/consulting skills

  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, and execute tasks with accuracy in a high-pressure, fast-paced agile environment

  • Proven authoritative knowledge of charts, trends, and artists

  • A keen eye for engaging short form content and digital campaign moments

  • Have strong knowledge of the streaming space and playlisting, fundamentally on Spotify and Apple Music, Amazon & YouTube services

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and outstanding presentational ability
