Ableton is expanding its machine learning capabilities, and we’re looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to help shape the technical and strategic direction of ML across Live and the wider Ableton ecosystem.
You’ll join a focused ML team working on creative tools for musicians. This role involves leading efforts across research and production, from prototyping to deployment. As part of this team, you will help develop our ML strategy and shape the evolution of machine learning at Ableton.
This role sits at the intersection of hands-on work and strategic thinking. We’re looking for an ML engineer, with deep learning experience, who’s excited by music technology, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and eager to define the future of ML in the creative space. It is designed for someone who is motivated to clarify direction, challenge assumptions, and help others do their best work.
We are accepting applicants who are located in Germany, Netherlands, Spain, UK or the US (CA, IL, NY, TX, GA, PA, CO, UT). Or applicants who are interested in relocating to one of these locations.
You will work closely with product owners, researchers, engineers and senior management, contributing both hands-on expertise and perspective on longer-term direction.
Actively shape the ML research and development direction, including identifying promising areas to explore and guide strategic decisions.
You design, train, evaluate and optimize ML models for creative workflows.
You lead ML research projects and help explore new directions.
You guide data collection, curation and ongoing dataset maintenance.
You build infrastructure to support reproducible and scalable model development.
You ensure your models are fast, reliable, and usable by musicians on real-world machines.
Support other engineers through mentoring and shared problem solving
You have experience with deep learning, PyTorch, and production-ready model development.
You have previous experience in data curation and ongoing dataset maintenance.
You bring practical knowledge of ML Ops (experiment tracking, deployment, cloud compute).
You're eager to shape our long term vision for how Machine Learning can meaningfully enhance modern music production workflows.
You have worked with audio or music-related deep learning problems.
You understand how people create music—even if you’re not a musician yourself.
