VENUE PROGRAMMER AND PROMOTER
QUARTERS BRIGHTON
Location: Brighton
Reports to: General Manager
Type: Full time, PAYE, weekend and late-night work required.
Overview
The Venue Programmer and Promoter is responsible for the diary management of Quarters Brighton and heavily contributes to a diverse, commercially successful, and culturally relevant programme.
They will increasingly take on programming responsibilities, whilst ensuring seamless administration and communication across the diary, programming, operations, technical, finance, and marketing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Programming & Diary Management
- Hold and manage the programming diary, ensure it is accurate, diary protocol is always followed, and relevant info is shared in a timely manner.
- Work closely with Head of Bookings to coordinate club, live, non-music, corporate bookings, and private hires to input into a coherent, diverse and compelling annual programme with an appropriate balance of local and national promoters and in-house events,
- Source and develop new promoters, brands, in-house concepts, new event formats, underserved audiences, and commercial opportunities,
- Book support line ups and progressively book headline talent with support and guidance from the AMAAD Booking Team.
- Develop a strong understanding of different events, audiences, talent and genre types, their operational requirements, associated risks and commercial benefits. Track local, regional and national event and trends, monitor seasonal patterns affecting attendance, ticket sales, bar revenue and customer behaviour. Provide insight and local market feedback to the wider team.
- Build and nurture relationships with promoters, artist agents, managers, event organisers, local artists, brands, and cultural and community groups.
- Negotiate talent deals, create and manage budgets, assist in negotiating venue hire agreements and commercial terms.
- Represent Quarters Brighton professionally and in the best interests of the venue.
- Presence at certain internally promoted shows as the face of the venue and provide the artist liaison function.
- Ensure learnings are shared with the wider team to improve programming, venue operations, production, and customer experience.
Contracting & Event Administration
- Oversee promoter venue hire agreement contracting and ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
- Book and brief appropriate production and artists liaison resource in line with event budgets.
- For internally promoted shows, lead event advancing alongside operational and technical (if necessary) teams, manage contracting, budgeting, and payment processing
- Work closely with the accounts team to administer:
- Venue hire and artist invoicing
- Event recharge processes
- Prompt post-event settlements
- Ensure all event information is accurately recorded within internal systems and communicated with relevant people.
- Work closely with AMAAD Booking Team, Ghostwriter Live Booking Team, Quarters General Manager, Quarters Marketing Executive, AMAAD Finance Team to ensure effective communication and the smooth delivery of all events.
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Experience programming live entertainment venues, music venues or event spaces. A minimum of 2 years experience required.
- Booking and promoting own events in a variety of venues.
- Strong understanding of the UK live music and events industry.
- Experience of advancing shows and of basic technical production
- Excellent organisational and diary management skills.
- Commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Experience dealing with promoters, agents or event organisers.
- Strong administration skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong working knowledge of all Microsoft office and file sharing and info sharing systems, programmes
- Confident working across multiple department and with multiple people in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Existing network of local and national promoters, artist agents and managers.
- Experience using event management or ticketing systems.
- Knowledge of venue operations, production and event logistics.
- Experience analysing event performance data and commercial reporting.
