Production Manager – Sound & Lighting

 

Location: Oxford Street, Sydney

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary: $70,000–$90,000 AUD + super, depending on experience

Hours: 38 hours per week + reasonable overtime. Regular Friday, Saturday and Sunday night shifts, generally 9:00 PM–6:00 AM, with remaining hours worked mid-week for maintenance, planning and event production.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Production Manager – Sound & Lighting to join the team at Carousel, one of Sydney’s leading Oxford Street nightclubs, ranked #83 in the world.

This is a hands-on technical and production role with overall responsibility for Carousel’s sound and lighting systems, including operation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting and ongoing equipment improvements.

You will also act as the Group Production Manager for sound and lighting across SASH and other group events, including street parties, one-off events and external productions around Sydney and Australia.

The role covers the full production process — from technical advancing and planning through to suppliers, crews, equipment, setup and event delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Carousel — Sound & Lighting

•⁠  ⁠Take overall responsibility for the venue’s sound and lighting systems.

•⁠  ⁠Operate sound and lighting during Carousel’s main Friday, Saturday and Sunday night trading periods.

•⁠  ⁠Program and operate MA2 / MA3 lighting consoles.

•⁠  ⁠Troubleshoot audio, lighting and other technical issues.

•⁠  ⁠Carry out mid-week maintenance, testing and upkeep of production equipment.

•⁠  ⁠Identify equipment requiring repair, replacement or improvement.

•⁠  ⁠Work with management on technical upgrades and improvements.

•⁠  ⁠Maintain an organised inventory of sound, lighting and production equipment.

Group Production & External Events

•⁠  ⁠Manage sound and lighting production across SASH and other group events.

•⁠  ⁠Advance upcoming shows, including artist technical riders and production requirements.

•⁠  ⁠Coordinate with DJs, touring artists, promoters, event managers and production companies.

•⁠  ⁠Plan technical specifications, equipment, staging, lighting and sound requirements.

•⁠  ⁠Coordinate external production suppliers, equipment and crews.

•⁠  ⁠Oversee load-ins, setups, soundchecks, event operations and pack-downs.

•⁠  ⁠Ensure production systems are correctly installed, tested and operational.

•⁠  ⁠Troubleshoot technical issues and provide practical solutions on-site.

•⁠  ⁠Manage production for SASH street parties, special events and other external productions around Australia, with a primary focus on Sydney.

 

Skills & Experience

 

Essential

•⁠  ⁠3–5+ years' experience in nightclubs, live events, concerts or entertainment production.

•⁠  ⁠Strong experience with MA Lighting consoles, particularly MA2 and/or MA3.

•⁠  ⁠Strong understanding of professional sound and lighting systems.

•⁠  ⁠Ability to independently troubleshoot audio, lighting and technical issues.

•⁠  ⁠Experience advancing shows and working with technical riders.

•⁠  ⁠Strong organisational and communication skills.

•⁠  ⁠Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical production.

•⁠  ⁠Comfortable working late nights, overnight hours and weekends.

 

Highly Desirable

•⁠  ⁠Experience with Funktion-One sound systems.

•⁠  ⁠Experience with MC² Audio amplification.

•⁠  ⁠Experience working with DJs, touring artists and promoters.

•⁠  ⁠Experience managing external production suppliers and crews.

•⁠  ⁠Experience with large-scale, outdoor or special events.

•⁠  ⁠Knowledge of networking, DMX, Dante and audio/lighting control systems.

•⁠  ⁠Established relationships with professional sound, lighting and production suppliers.

Salary Range

$70,000 - $90,000 AUD + Superannuation
