Job Description

Founded in 2001, Resident Advisor (RA) is one of the world's longest-running music media brands and a cornerstone of the dance, electronic and DJ ecosystem. The site's audience of over 6 million monthly users is drawn in by a combination of news, editorial, club listings and ticketing, RA-branded events at venues and festivals worldwide, original films and a weekly mix series that has run for 18 years.

Purpose of the role:

We are looking for someone with a single-minded dedication to news to anchor RA's global news coverage across our website, multimedia channels and newsletter. Working directly with the News Editor (UK) and Head of Editorial, you'll cover breaking news in dance music—from industry happenings to major releases—and oversee longer investigative pieces where the scene intersects with social change, business and politics. This requires speed, cultural curiosity, journalistic rigour and a nose for a scoop.

You'll write and edit regularly while liaising with staff writers in London, Berlin and New York, plus freelance contributors from our Global Content Network, and colleagues across the Revenue and International desks. Our ideal candidate will switch reactively between quick social media hits and authoritative reports on weighty topics—acting as curator, content creator and news writer rolled into one.

Key responsibilities:

  • Source, write, edit and publish daily news stories from around the globe
  • Lead coverage during US time zones when major stories break
  • Work with discretion and mindfulness on industry-leading coverage
  • Build and maintain relationships with PR firms, labels, artists and promoters, as well as internal staff across RA's commercial departments and global network
  • Feed into innovation on RA's website and social channels, working with others in the Brand & Creative cluster to lead coverage direction
  • Write and edit RA Picks and news posts on RA's social media channels
  • Professionally represent the RA brand at all times

We’re looking for:

  • Passion to be both first and best at covering news, with experience writing and editing to the standards a leading publication requires
  • Broad understanding of electronic music, contemporary pop culture and the sensitivities of the global community RA represents
  • Experience managing stakeholders across editorial, revenue and external partners (beneficial)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience using social media to share news stories
  • Ability to work within a team structure, report to senior stakeholders, and be in our Brooklyn office three days per week
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

What we offer you:

  • Generous annual leave policies aimed at promoting work-life balance.
  • Flexibility in working arrangements, offering hybrid or remote work options based on role requirements and location.
  • Matching pension schemes and/or 401k.
  • Comprehensive staff wellbeing initiatives, featuring regular activities and workplace programmes to support mental and physical health. This includes discounted Classpass memberships, and custom-fitted earplugs.
  • Company-led social events, team lunches, and discounts on RA merch.
  • Paid annual volunteering allowance, encouraging contributions to community projects and charities you care about.
  • Regular company-wide Q&A’s with senior leadership, along with ongoing virtual educational training sessions for all staff.
  • A transparent internal company culture committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (see: https://ra.co/about/diversity).
  • Active involvement in community projects within the electronic music community (see:  https://ra.co/about/community).
