Unlocked London 2024 Edition Announced for November 23rd

Unlocked London 2024 Edition Announced for November 23rd
After three UK editions of Unlocked, our one-day careers development day, and our first one in Berlin this year in partnership with Refuge Worldwide, we're excited to be back on home turf with another London edition.

The event is free to attend for people aged 18 and above who want to find their pathway into a career in the music industry and there is no upper age limit for applications. This event is designed to shed light on the many behind the scenes roles that exist within music and is not aimed at DJs, producers or performers.

The primary aim of Unlocked is to address the lack of diversity within the music industry by demystifying the roles within for those who face barriers to entry. For this reason, we will prioritise applications from FLINTA, POC, LGTBQi+ communities and from people with visible and non visible disabilities and/or from lower income households. Priority will also be given tho those with little to no prior experience working in the music industry.

Bursaries covering coach or rail travel are available for people travelling from outside of London, please opt in on the application form if you require one.

The event will take place on Saturday November 23rd from 11:00 - 18:00 at Canvas in East London. A free lunch and refreshments will be provided and the sessions will be documented the Doors Open channels (photography + videography).

The event aims to equip participants with a foundation of knowledge about the roles that exist in the music scene, and include panels and talks from a range of leading industry experts working in the sector such as Elijah, Rinse FM founder Geeneus and label manager Marva Kreel, and DJ and academic Yewande Adeniran. Comprised of sessions created to help aspiring professionals better understand the industry ecosystem, the programme also includes a masterclass on application best practices from RA Director of People and Culture Mike Zinkiewich. Also featured across the programme are KLS Bookings managing director and agent Jo Hunter; Assembled Live founder Jonathan Edwards; 285 Group management assistant Tehmeena Shafquat; Tony Nwachukwu, producer and founder of CDR; and RA's Head of Editorial Gabriel Szatan, Chief Impact and Culture Officer Amy Van-Baaren and Doors Open & Community Partnerships Manager Iona Thomas.

Participants are also invited to stick around after the talks programme until 20:00 for an informal networking session.

You can apply in writing, or you can record yourself via audio or video and include links under each question. If you have any specific access needs relating to the application process or the project itself, please contact iona@doorsopen.co.

The deadline to apply is by the end of Friday 8th November and we will inform all applicants of our decisions by the end of Monday 11th November.
