After a series of successful events in the UK and Berlin we're excited to bring our UNLOCKED careers series to the US for the first time, landing in
New York City on October 4th 2025.
Doors Open: UNLOCKED is a one-day careers development event which works to equip participants with foundational knowledge about the roles that exist in the music scene. The New York edition will feature panels and talks from a range of leading industry experts working in the sector including creative director Steven Klavier;
The Bunker booking agent Michelle Erfer;
Good Room lighting designer and director Gary Hunt; and
Kindergarten Records founder and digital sales manager at
!K7 Ma Sha. The programme also includes a masterclass on application best practices from RA Director of People and Culture Mike Zinkiewich. A final session is yet to be announced, and will be co-curated with applicants through responses gathered in this application form.
This event is designed for anyone aged 18+ interested in pursuing a behind the scenes career in the music industry - there is no upper age limit to apply. The primary aim of UNLOCKED is to address the lack of diversity within the music industry by demystifying the roles within it for those who face barriers to entry. For this reason, priority will be given to applicants from: FLINTA (female, lesbian, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender), POC, and LGBTQI+ communities, people with disabilities, those from lower-income households, as well as people with refugee or care backgrounds.
This event is specifically designed to shed light on the many behind the scenes roles that exist within music and is not aimed at those seeking a career as a performer.
Travel stipends of up to $50 per person are available for bus or rail travel from Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, West Chester, Hudson, and Philadelphia areas. Those applying for a stipend should outline their proposed travel details in the designated space on the form.
The event will take place on Saturday October 4th from 11AM - 6PM at Signal in Brooklyn and lunch and refreshments for the day will be provided by Doors Open.
Participants are also invited to stay after the talks programme for an informal networking session until 8PM, and are also invited to stay at Signal for the night time event.
Applicants can apply in writing or via audio or video and include links under each question. Those with access needs relating to the application process or the project itself should contact iona@doorsopen.co.
The deadline to apply is by the end of Monday 22nd September and we will inform all applicants of our decisions by the end of Wednesday 24th September.
