Doors Open and Ableton launch new UNLOCKED series to demystify music tech roles

Doors Open, in collaboration with Ableton, is thrilled to announce the launch of Doors Open UNLOCKED with Ableton, an innovative four-part online workshop series designed to demystify the hidden roles in the music tech industry and foster a diverse peer network entitled "Doors Open UNLOCKED: Empowering the future of music tech with Ableton."

Finding a career in music technology can feel confusing, but it doesn’t have to be. UNLOCKED by Doors Open returns in 2025 with a four-part online workshop series, created in partnership with Ableton. These sessions are all about sharing knowledge, breaking down different roles in the industry, and offering insights into the various career possibilities available. As a leading developer of tools like Live, Push, Move, and Note, Ableton is committed to supporting music makers at all levels and strengthening the wider music ecosystem. This collaboration with Doors Open aims to lower barriers, create learning opportunities, and help people explore different pathways in the music industry. It’s a chance to hear from experienced professionals, ask questions, and gain a clearer understanding of what’s possible.

The programme is aimed at those with little to no experience working in music tech, but with a pre-existing enthusiasm for music production, who are seeking the foundational knowledge, inspiration and confidence they need to pursue a career in music tech. Limited spots are available. The workshops are free to attend and for people aged 18 and above and there is no upper age limit.

A pre-application survey will ensure sessions address participants’ unique needs, fostering a supportive environment for growth and learning. The primary aim of Unlocked is to address the lack of diversity within the music industry by demystifying the roles within for those who face barriers to entry. For this reason, we will prioritise applications from FLINTA, POC, and LGTBQIA+ communities and people with visible and non-visible disabilities and/or from lower-income households.

The sessions will be recorded and sections will be hosted online, but the Q&A and interactive sessions will remain private.

Applications close on March 18th and decisions will be sent out to all applicants by March 26th - apply for your place here.
