Senior Business Analyst, Technology
12 Month Fixed Term Contract, Full Time
(Hybrid working role, between remote and 3 office-based days)

About the Team

Technology & Data plays a central role in the mission-driven nature of PPL’s operations, where metadata is the foundation of the business and the basis on which the company pays hundreds of thousands of musicians. Technology is the focus of a multiyear, multimillion pound investment plan that is currently being implemented at PPL, reflecting its central importance in the Company’s operations.

The Technology team are well respected within the business which is shown by the investment in Technology and in world-class systems selected by the team. Examples of this in recent years have been Workday, Salesforce, AWS, Tableau and Snowflake. As part of the tech team, you will be empowered to be innovative, push boundaries on PPL’s tech usage and will deal with a complexity of challenges each day.

About the role
 

As our Senior Business Analyst, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between business stakeholders and the technology team. Working within our Technology department, the Business Analyst will be responsible for gathering business requirements from business users and translating these into artefacts which enable design and build of our systems.

You will work collaboratively with business teams, developers and architects to ensure technical solutions meet business requirements and PPL's strategic objectives.

A key part of this role will be determining the wider business strategy for individual projects, in support of PPL's Business Architect. You will define and set standards for Business Analysis and provide some QA over wider business analysis work.

You will lead the business analysis of PPL’s larger and more complex projects and at the same time provide support and guidance to more junior members of the team.


What you’ll be doing:

1. Understanding how business teams work holistically taking into consideration processes, systems, data and people.

  • Develops a detailed understanding of how the business operates and contributes to the setting/ development of strategic objectives, key business initiatives, departmental structures, functions, processes, procedures and current application functionality
  • Lead the identification of potential process and systems solutions to business needs and work with key business users to develop a prioritised roadmap for system enhancements, ensuring a close fit between business needs and technical solutions

2. Gathering requirements from business users for improvements to processes and systems.

  • Define standards for the gathering of business requirements and coach other BA team members in the application of these standards to ensure a consistent approach to requirements gathering.
  • Take the lead with stakeholders to elicit and document detailed business requirements in the form of a detailed strategic, business and functional requirements specification set.
  • Lead the mapping of business and technical requirements to business benefits and support the development of the business case.

3. Translating the business requirements into artefacts which enable the design and build of new processes and systems.

  • Define standards for the translation of business requirements into artefacts which enable the design and build of new processes and systems and coach other BA team members in the application of these standards to ensure a consistent approach.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, use cases and user stories that can be developed into technical requirements documentation and can be quickly understood by other technical team members
  • Create process and system documentation including process flows, data models and interface designs
  • Undertake detailed analysis and impact assessment (incorporating application, process, function, data and organisation) of possible systems solutions
  • Quality assure the outputs of other members of the BA team, using your skills, knowledge and experience to provide guidance and support to help them create high quality design deliverables.  

4. Playing a key role in ensuring that the delivered changes meet the business requirements including contributing to the testing phase of the project.

  • Ensure requirements are mapped to testing by working closely with the test team, and help the test team to understand the underlying business need behind system changes
  • Develop and execute functional test plans to validate that solutions meet business needs
  • Work with testing teams and developers identify and resolve issues during the testing phase

5. Other related activities

  • Plays a lead role alongside project managers in determining project scope, costs, and timescales
  • Leads discussions about new solution requirements between the business and the rest of Technology
  • Undertake guidance and management of resources as required in the execution of project responsibilities

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in a formal business analysis role taking on requirements definition and business process design on medium to large scale projects
  • Experience of business process improvement workstreams/ of documenting business processes
  • Experience of micro-service based applications, XML / json & a strong focus on integration between systems & migration.
  • Experience with AWS
  • Leading research on possible technical solutions to business / technical requirements 
  • Writing user stories for use by other team members 
  • Collaborative stakeholder management skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a simple manner 
  • Familiar with Behaviour-Driven Development and Test-Driven Development
  • Working in a multi-vendor environment
