The Analyst, Intellectual Property Licensing will be a key member of the IP Licensing team at Sony Music. This role ensures that all licensing matters for products released by Columbia, Epic, and other labels are handled efficiently and in compliance with relevant regulations. You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders to manage the clearance of rights and ensure timely payments to publishers.
What you'll do:
- Track assigned releases by monitoring relevant label release schedules.
- Review track listings to identify potential copyright, rights, and cost considerations.
- Obtain publisher approvals and confirm license terms for assigned releases.
- Collaborate with the Clearance Coordinator to verify writer and publisher details and ensure accuracy in the licensing process.
- Confirm licensing terms align with negotiated agreements.
- Gather and confirm ownership splits for assigned songwriters and publishers.
- Review artist and producer contracts to ensure accurate application of rights.
- Enter and verify contract information in the contract summary system.
- Input and confirm royalty rates in the royalty system.
- Administer mechanical, digital, and synchronization licenses.
- Liaise with departments such as Release Planning, A&R Administration, Business Affairs, and Finance to resolve complex licensing issues.
- Track financial information related to assigned products, including accruals.
- Negotiate with publishers for rights such as synchronization and broadcast licenses and assist with sample clearances.
- Research and resolve outstanding copyright issues for catalog releases, including audit claims.
- Support special projects and perform other duties as needed.
Who you are:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
- 2-3 years of experience in music copyright clearances, particularly in audio, video, and digital content.
- Experience in mechanical and/or synchronization licensing.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to handle a high volume of tasks under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Effective negotiation skills and sound business judgment.
- Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and flexibility.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
