The Merch Collective is a boutique music merchandising company representing top Artists in touring, eCommerce, and retail channels has an immediate opening for a Finance Controller.

 We are seeking a Finance Controller who embodies a blend of analytical thought and strong leadership acumen to foster a culture of communication and empowerment within our Finance team. This role requires an experienced professional with strong accounting, organization and leadership skills. Reporting directly to the President, the Finance Controller plays a key role within the Company through the implementation and oversight of financial systems and processes. As the head of our Finance, your responsibilities will be comprised of the following:

What you'll do:

  • Manage and oversee all finance and accounting operations and reporting.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of budget and financial forecasts and reporting variances.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial reports and uploads.
  • Assist with preparation of operating budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Track cash flow.

Financial Statement Preparation:

  • Coordinate the activities needed to complete the monthly financial close on a timely basis.
  • Review and reconcile inventory balances and invoicing.
  • Review accruals and reconciliations.
  • Research financial discrepancies and variances.
  • Prepare reports and analyses for senior management.

Financial Management and Oversight:

  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of the Finance team including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Royalties.
  • Implement effective financial controls and segregation of responsibilities to ensure accuracy, accountability and minimize risk.
  • Ensure compliance with sales tax reporting requirements and deadlines.

Strategy and Planning:

  • Work closely with senior management and operations to develop appropriate controls and processes.
  • Identify and implement system improvements and control enhancements as needed.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Inspire, mentor, and guide our Finance team, nurturing a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Set clear objectives and provide regular feedback and evaluations to team members.
  • Identify training needs and implement initiatives to upskill our team.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to maintain a balanced workload and clear priorities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment where every team member feels valued, motivated and accountable.

Who you are:

  • BS degree in Accounting required.
  • 7-15 years professional accounting experience.
  • Professional certification - CPA or master’s degree is a plus.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise required.
  • A mentor mindset with a strength for empowering teams.
  • Passion for music and a deep understanding of music merchandise.
  • Based in Nashville, TN - Hybrid.
