The Cause is an award-winning, fully independent multi-venue dance music institution. We are a vital part of London’s nightlife ecosystem and we pride ourselves in supporting charitable causes and championing underground dance music. Whilst maintaining the ethos of The Cause and providing a platform for electronic artists to continue playing through the pandemic, through ventures such as Costa Del Tottenham and All My Friend, provided a wider portfolio of entertainment, varying from food, comedy, cabaret, live music and DJ events.

Since the closure of our beloved venue in the heart of Tottenham back in January 2022, we have worked round the clock to secure some exciting new opportunities to keep the crew together and find a new home. Having secured new spaces for us to operate across London, we are recruiting for a variety of senior management positions to help manage the operations of the spaces, develop and grow the team and move the business forward.

THE ROLE 

The Head Lighting Technician will be responsible for the heading up the Lighting Production department at our club The Cause. As our club grows at an exponential rate, we want an experienced and driven individual to push the boundaries and create dynamic and unique visual experiences for our customers & clients. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the main point of contact for all lighting based enquiries and communications, that will be sent across from external promoters & the cause operations manager 

  • Develop, improve and undertake a rigorous maintenance schedule for all in-house lighting equipment - to ensure the full potential and lifespan of all assets. Scheduling in repairs for all equipment that is unfixable within the club and ensuring it’s return in a timely manner

  • Undertake weekly orders of perishable items such as fog liquid, haze fluid, lighting gels, maintenance equipment. Creating par-levels for all necessary items and ensuring they are regularly topped up in a cost-efficient manner 

  • Upscale and improve the base-level programming and presets, across all spaces in the venue using any aspect of light production. Continually striving to improve the overall experience and aesthetic, and thinking of creative ways to think outside the box to make our spaces unique and aiding in the overall progression of the clubs aesthetic

  • Taking the lead on planning on execution of larger production based shows, that could require working with external contractors and/or hiring in external equipment to maximise the sites full potential

  • Operate the lighting production for events at The Cause at least two days a week (where applicable). Being available to be the lead operator and manage the wider lighting team at all key shows (deemed necessary by the operations manager, within reason)

  • Scheduling a weekly/monthly Lighting Operating rota, keeping within a set budget from the Operations manager. Liaising with the pool of freelance lighting technicians to ensure all event lighting requirements are met and carried out to a consistently high standard

  • Training & development of the junior lighting technicians, striving to improve the standard of their work and empowering them to progress within their roles and the industry

  • Creating and developing the aesthetic across all individual spaces in the club, ensuring consistency and cohesive to the brand, with help and direction from the artistic director and operations manager 


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Must Have

  • A passion for the events industry, in particular electronic & live music events

  • A fundamental understanding of the structure of musical songs & sets. Knowing where the lighting can compliment the peaks and troughs of a musical performance. Being able to work harmoniously with a multitude of different musical styles and artists

  • 2+ years experience in events rigging in relation to lighting and general venue tech

  • 3+ years experience as a lighting operator & programmer (preferably in Avolites/ChamSys/Madrix)

  • Professional work attitude. The ability to deal with a variety of clients, in a customer facing environment

  • Ability to find and fix basic faults in lighting equipment 

  • High level of proficiency with admin based computer programs such as; Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word

  • Able to work weekends, public holidays and late night hours

  • Experience with power tools, basic wood working and building skills

Desired to Have

  • IPAF Licence  

  • Counterbalance Forklift Licence

  • Rigging Qualifications 

  • VJ Experience (Resolume/Projection Mapping) 

  • LED Wall experience - rigging & operating 

  • Drivers Licence 

 

SALARY 

  • Up to £30,000-£40,000 - dependant on experience 

  • 30-40 Hour Guaranteed - number of hours dependant on experience and terms to be agreed
