Material is a forward-thinking London based music company working with an artist focus. For the past decade we have been developing a unique company that works across recordings, management and publishing. Our passion for music, dedication to quality and commitment to partnerships enables us to continually discover and develop outstanding creative global talent.
The label assistant role primary focus is on the recordings business assisting in delivering ongoing success for both artists and label. Though on occasions your role will bleed into other tasks within other areas. There is a requirement to be a multi skilled individual who is able to deal with a variety of tasks. This is a role for an organised individual with a growing contacts book and a real passion for electronic music that is happy to get involved with a busy release schedule.
There are various tasks involving administration and inputting, so attention to detail is absolutely vital. You must be a good communicator, ensuring email tone and sentiment is on point, a self-starter who enjoys working in music and relishes a challenge in a competitive, creative and professional environment. You will have the opportunity to develop and grow your role over time, specialising in areas that most interest you. We actively encourage providing time for educational and industry courses to develop your skillset.
Part of your weekly output will be spent on A&R scouting, seeking out new potential artists to sign and develop. From searching Soundcloud to attending shows, we expect you to deliver ongoing opportunities for new talent. We actively encourage contributing ideas and believe in each individual making a creative contribution no matter their level or experience.
You should know your metadata from your marketing and distribution from design. As an assistant you will touch upon and learn about every corner of the business, reporting to both the marketing and label manager. You should be prepared to deal with new tasks with resolve, determination and enthusiasm. A typical day may include uploading digital products, basic design tasks, managing the web store, creating playlists, A&R, mastering, label copy, liaising with artist teams, DJ mailers, writing sales notes and proposal creation.
Creativity is at the heart of what we do. We expect you to have your finger on the pulse with what’s new both in technology and music. In a constantly changing environment it is necessary to understand and recognize future trends both in creative industries and technology.
You should bring bags of dedication and passion, keen to build a serious career at Material and willing to learn fast on the job. Living and breathing the company and its artist and brand driven ethos will be something that will stand you in good stead and provide excellent opportunities for the future. We embrace hybrid working between home and the office in Elephant and Castle. Some out of hours work will be expected, especially at weekends.
