Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced product leader to join the Focusrite team and guide our efforts to enter adjacent market segments.

The Head of Product for New Markets will be responsible for expanding the company’s core business into adjacent music products categories. You will develop winning product strategies, optimise product requirements, and work closely with the Focusrite R&D team to ensure success. Your job will be to make the right products, with the right features, at the right price, at the right time.

This position reports to the Director of Product, Focusrite Audio Engineering, Ltd.

Purpose of the role:

  • The Head of Product for New Markets must solve problems for customers better than competitors can, and do so in a way that is unique to Focusrite
  • This position is responsible for thoroughly understanding target customer needs, use cases, and workflows, as well as quantifying threats from leading competitors’ products and services
  • The successful candidate will ensure that we grow our market share through continued hardware and software differentiation, as well as expansion into new channels and geographies

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for upcoming Focusrite new products roadmap, from product vision and concept creation, through the product lifecycle; ensuring ongoing profitability while remaining consistent with company strategy
  • Analyse market size, channel sales, and customer data to derive best product plans and pricing
  • Researching and understanding relevant customer personas, their use cases, and workflows, to help deliver winning products that solve their problems in a unique and compelling way
  • Propose, at regular intervals, additional product opportunities along with business cases and forecast assumptions
  • Create relevant and targeted value propositions, and communicate competitive positioning across the organisation, to drive best-in-class execution for your products
  • Develop and maintain feature requirements for products (hardware and software), while making efficient trade-offs of features and time to market to optimise profitability
  • Assist in crafting customer-facing product copy, image and video assets to ensure relevancy and resonance with target customers
  • Work cross functionally to develop connected, multi-product, and multi-brand strategies that support customer needs and deliver highest value in the competitive landscape
  • Understand core technologies to help prioritise efficient use of engineering bandwidth and maximise ROI
  • Continuously review product performance and propose actions to achieve business objectives

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • A strong understanding of the Product Management function, with minimum of 8 years’ experience running a Product Management department
  • A strong understanding and passion for the music-making and sound reinforcement industries, and the technology behind leading products
  • Strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative, with the ability to turn complex data into insight to inform decision making
  • A confident and influential communicator with an ability to influence colleagues across many functions, territories and levels
  • A creative mind with a clear customer focus at all times
  • A passionate and determined problem-solver
  • A self-starter, capable of working independently
  • Able to manage and prioritise multiple work streams simultaneously, with a strong focus on timely delivery of objectives
  • Computer literate, with a knowledge of Mac, PC and iOS operating systems, and fluency in the MS Office

Reports to: Director of Product, Focusrite Audio Engineering, Limited

Location: The role is headquartered in High Wycombe, but could be managed remotely with regular visits to the H.W. head office (hardware), and semi-regular visits to our London office (software). The successful candidate is expected to travel for channel partner visits, end-user customer visits, and trade shows. Candidates should expect to travel one week per quarter.
