Software QA Engineer (Web)

Location: High Wycombe UK, London UK, or Hybrid (UK Office/Home based)

Term: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: £30000 - £45000 pa + excellent benefits

Are you passionate about music and audio technology, with a working knowledge of MIDI?

Do you have a professional background in testing web applications?

If you have answered yes to both the above, we would love to hear from you! We are looking for the right person to join our QA Team in a web-focused role, working on the software that helps power our current and future synthesizers and MIDI controllers.

What you will be doing:

  • Reporting to the QA Manager, you will be working within the Novation Team, taking ownership of testing the Components web platform (
  • You’ll be working closely with Software Developers, Product Owners, and Designers to develop web software that makes it easier for customers to use and enjoy our MIDI Controllers, Synths, and Grooveboxes. Key activities include:
  • Defining the scope of QA/Test activities across the Components platform
  • Working with Beta Testers and the Novation QA Team to deliver quality releases
  • Implementing automated testing wherever appropriate to enable more efficient regression testing.
  • Generating and executing robust, well documented, and maintainable functional, non-functional, and user acceptance tests
  • Documenting and reporting test results, working closely with software developers to address any issues

An ideal candidate is likely to be:

  • From a web testing background, with 2+ years’ of demonstrable professional experience
  • Self-motivated, with a track record of improving test processes and coverage
  • A clear communicator, used to working in an Agile development team
  • Methodical and rigorous, with a logical approach to problem solving
  • Able to demonstrate some basic programming ability, preferably in TypeScript or JavaScript
  • Experienced with at least one relevant test framework, e.g. Playwright, Cypress
  • Comfortable with the principles of Continuous Integration (CI) and Version Control
  • Familiar with HTML and CSS
  • Interested in music and audio technology, with knowledge of the MIDI protocol

Experience of some of the following would also be useful:

  • Ember.js
  • Electron
  • Test tools such as BrowserStack, JMeter, Postman
  • Web security principles (e.g. OWASP Top 10)
  • Website accessibility testing (WCAG)
  • Use of telemetry to monitor production environments
