Junior Mechanical Design Engineer

Based: High Wycombe / Hybrid
Term: Full time
Salary: £24000-£35000 pa + excellent benefits

We’re looking for a Mechanical Designer to join our Engineering Design team. We’re a growing team who are passionate about creating products that are engaging and inspiring.

Products that look and feel as good as they perform, and which help people in their creative process.

You will have responsibility for delivering the Mechanical Design of Focusrite, Focusrite Pro and Novation products, from collaborating on the Industrial Design of new concepts, through the product lifecycle to mass production.

With research into new processes, technologies, and materials - you’ll help us deliver smart, sustainable, cost optimised designs that meet the high standards of Quality, Ease of Use and Reliability that underpin our design philosophy.

We’re always trying to improve how we work, improve our designs, and make our products more sustainable, so we’re looking forward to you bringing your experience and ideas into the team.

This role also provides exciting opportunities for travel to the Far East, providing onsite support to our contract manufacturers.

An Ideal candidate is likely to be:

  • Degree level educated, preferably in a Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or Industrial Design subject.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the use of MCAD, and generate robust 3D models, complex assemblies and professional standard 2D drawings.
  • An advanced user of graphic design and photo-realistic rendering software packages such as Adobe Illustrator and Keyshot.
  • A great problem solver with the ability to deconstruct complex problems.
  • Passionate about great design and have at least 1 years’ industry experience in a mechanical or product/industrial design role.
  • Able to translate Industrial Design concepts into Production Ready Mechanical Data.
  • Experienced using rapid prototyping to test and de-risk design approaches.
  • Knowledgeable on a wide range of manufacturing/fabrication and finishing processes commonly used in the mass production of consumer electronic products.
  • Aware of concepts such as; Design For Assembly, Design For Manufacture, Product Design Certification and Compliance.
  • Able to utilise mechanical engineering principles, design research and logical reasoning to underpin and communicate design decisions.
  • Able to collaborate closely with engineering and design colleagues, and demonstrate good written/verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible, curious, and pragmatic.
  • Interested in audio technology and acoustics.
  • Within commutable distance from our High Wycombe office for at least 3 days per week.
