Job Description

Software Team Lead / Architect

Term: Full-time, Permanent

Based: Berlin
Salary: Dependent on Experience

Are you passionate about engineering and its application to acoustics and audio reproduction?

Do you have a background in software architecture and engineering, some recent leadership experience and a desire to help define and deliver a future roadmap of products?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then we’d love to hear from you!

At ADAM we're incredibly passionate about audio and acoustics. We're looking for a forward-thinking software architect to join our pro-audio team, who will work closely with the Product and Engineering teams, to help define our software development strategy, grow our internal team, and help deliver our next generation of studio monitors.

What you’ll be doing

We are growing our delivery engineering department, and this role is a key part of establishing a new technical leadership team. You will establish the software development strategy required to deliver the product roadmap, and support the product delivery team in defining the right software architecture and approach for our eco-system of products. You will be collaborating closely with the research, product management and wider engineering teams, supporting early product definition and prototyping, the development of products through to market launch, and feature updates and maintenance for established products.

For each software product you will work with the product management and engineering teams to understand the customer and the required features, capturing the requirements to deliver them, and defining the appropriate architecture and design. You’ll balance good development practice and ROI across a roadmap of products and product ranges, collaborating with other architects and developers across the Focusrite Group on shared technology initiatives, and sharing learning and improvement ideas between the teams.

As the roadmap grows, you’ll also be hiring new talent, and developing and coaching the software team, to help them deliver the exciting roadmap of new products.

You’ll report to the Director of Product Delivery and be a part of the Engineering Leadership Team.

An ideal candidate is likely to be

  • Able to think with a Platform mindset
  • Experienced in product development and software architecture realization
  • A good communicator who is able to articulate complex topics to a range of audiences.
  • Empathetic, with good interpersonal skills.
  • Technically proficient and curious, with recent hands-on experience of a range of SW development languages and tools, like modern C++ (14+), CMake and Git.
  • Able to guide the use of appropriate development methodologies such as peer review, TDD, unit testing, XP and automation.
  • Knowledgeable in approaches to robust SW design e.g. requirements/backlog capture, storyboarding, documentation.
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with embedded software engineers, balancing the implications of decisions on both application and embedded SW disciplines.
  • Interested and inquisitive about audio and acoustics.
  • Comfortable working in spoken and written English. German language skills would also be an advantage.
