Job Description

​​The Funky Seshwa, a Brooklyn-based event series & music collective, is seeking a multifaceted & resourceful person to join the team/family helping with event logistics & strategic promotion. As we near our fifth anniversary in December, we are looking to hire a (preferably) New York based intern to help with an array of tasks including production assistance for our DIY events, marketing & social media support, digital & creative assets management (soundcloud, instagram, google drive) and content development.

About Funky Seshwa

We are an on the ground collective of DJs, producers, record label folk, visual artists & soulful party enthusiasts who thrive off producing diverse, inclusive, and uplifting events with a focus on hi-fi sound, sustainability, and most importantly: heady and funky dance music. We hold residencies at Brooklyn clubs, Good Room and Public Records, on top of hosting an array of DIY events in NYC/Brooklyn & Mexico City. 

Week to Week:

  • Planning and managing our posting schedule on social media
  • Creative asset design for parties & events 
  • Scouting new event locations throughout NYC 
  • Production Assistance with ongoing and upcoming events including running errands, ordering items, coordinating/executing pick-ups & managing vendor communications & coordination 
  • Help setting up / breaking down parties
  • Day of Show support at events when necessary 

About You

The ideal candidate has a passion for unifying people & facilitating collaboration, and a serious love for dance music & party culture. You are familiar with the philosophy of The Loft & David Mancuso and you have a reverence for transcendental gatherings under the disco ball.   You are an inclusive minded, out of the box thinker, who innately hustles to fulfil their creative vision. You have some experience producing or throwing your own events, or you’ve worked with party collectives or venues before. You are a music industry swiss army knife in the making, eager to learn and contribute in any way you can. We are a tight knit family and there is space to grow as a creative collaborator after the internship term is over.

The ideal candidate has / is:

  • Based in New York, speaks English
  • 2-4+ years in the music industry (PR, label work, journalism, event production, promotion, A&R, music supervision, DJing, visual art/set design, etc.)
  • Experience managing social media channels 
  • Punctual with a extreme attention to detail
  • Passionate about dance music & live music
  • Has experience as a promoter, artist manager, tour manager, or event producer 
  • Aware and knowledgeable about the New York and global dance music scene
  • Experience grassroots community building 

Bonus aspects we love:

  • Proficient in Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro
  • Experience managing 
  • Photographer, Videographer, Journalist
  • Set designer, Visual Artist
  • College degree in relevant majors; Arts Management, Music, Studio Art, Hospitality, Marketing, PR, etc.
  • Having a car or vehicle to schlep things around 
  • A love for food & community building
