AFEM are seeking a General Manager to continue to grow the membership, develop new and existing initiatives and lead the organisation into its 9th year in 2022.
The General Manager is the senior AFEM executive, responsible for oversight, management and delivery of all operations and membership value activities. Reporting directly to the Founders / Co-Chairs and Executive Board, the role includes constant engagement with members, industry and wider stakeholders, motivating and overseeing a small but dynamic team to provide the AFEM Membership with the best possible service.
Responsibilities Include -
Operational Team Management:
Manage and support key team members - Regional Managers x 2 (1 Full Time, 1 Part-time), Events & Communications Manager x 1 (Part Time), Operations Consultant x 1 (Part-time 1 day p/w) + external Accounts Admin Assistant x 1.
Increase AFEMs effectiveness by coaching and managing staff; communicating the organisations’ strategy, and objectives; assigning accountabilities; planning, monitoring, and appraising performance; cultivating a positive work environment where the team feels able to contribute information and opinions.
Identify optimal income model and potential sponsorship model to facilitate organisational growth & international effectiveness (increase finances to enable more Regional Manager roles and increased lobbying focus in broader set of territories)
Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential members; responding to members’ needs by implementing new initiatives and maximising value for money from membership.
Seek to provide platforms and opportunities to amplify the expertise and leading voices within the membership.
Strategic Planning and Use of Resources:
Develop and implement strategic plans by understanding external opportunities and recommending objectives to the team, Founders/Co-Chairs & Executive Board.
Review, prioritise and develop existing initiatives and identify opportunities for the organisation to develop new projects.
Industry Liaison & Communication:
Build the reputation of AFEM by collaborating with businesses, community organisations, other trade bodies to advocate for ethical business practices.
Represent and promote the work of AFEM at events, conferences and in the media alongside other members and team personnel. Build & maintain relationships with other key industry bodies.
Coordinate internal and external communications between staff members, membership, board level, and media.
Seek to identify opportunities to increase AFEM’s income through new affiliate programmes and potential sponsorships.
Executive Board & Chairs Engagement:
Quarterly Executive Board video conference calls – agenda setting and lead meetings.
2 x physical Exec Board meetings (usually at IMS Ibiza and ADE Amsterdam) - agenda setting and lead meetings.
Bi-weekly call with Founders/Co-chairs for updates and guidance.
Working Groups Support:
Guidance and support for working group leaders / co-chairs.
Strategic assistance across the working groups.
Drive initiatives progress within the industry
Person Spec - Ideal Attributes & Experience:
Deep experience, understanding and passion for electronic music and the industry
5-10 years experience working at a senior level within the electronic music industry.
Senior level experience within a music membership organisation, trade body or similar
High emotional intelligence with ability to navigate sensitive political situations
A clear understanding of, and vision for the support that a professional organisation can bring to the industry
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
