Based in Buena Park, CA, Studio 60 functions as an in-house creative agency for Yamaha musical instrument and audio/visual products. The Copywriter will work under the direction of the Creative Director to help implement the creative vision and execute work that will elevate the brand.  The Copywriter is responsible for ideation, translating creative direction, and transformation of those ideas into compelling content and copy.

The Copywriter needs to be able to think conceptually and creatively; being competent and comfortable in producing both short and long-form communications across a wide range of mediums including digital, video scripts, email, websites, online advertisements, brochure, point-of-sale, etc.  The ideal candidate can work very well both individually and in team situations, should be able to enthusiastically present both internally and to the client. Copywriters are members of the Creative Team, which interacts closely with Account and Project Management to understand business objectives, and audience demographics to demonstrate the creative approach within the project team and overall deadlines.

 

Here's what you’ll do:

  • Work closely with the Creative Director or Designers on developing and executing conceptual, emotional and brand relevant ideas with messaging that breaks through the clutter of the music and artistic communities, and with activations that inspire personal engagement
  • Bring your excellent writing skills, advertising agency background, and passion for playing or listening to music and how it’s created to every project. You will help us attract new music lovers from beginners to pros and help us build our community of loyal and passionate Yamaha musicians and partners.
  • Be instrumental in articulating our brand voice with simple and interesting ideas and tactical writing in a variety of online and offline mediums (i.e. digital advertising, product videos, web pages, blogs, social posts, print ads, trade shows, in-store signage, SEO, search copy, email, etc.)
  • Be responsible for staying on task and on time while working on several simultaneous projects, and will be expected to stay in close communication with your immediate partners as they relate to copywriting and to other projects you are assigned
  • Secure approval for all work from the creative director for the specific assignment prior to client review
  • Meet with internal clients of varying levels and present work to them alone or with designers
  • Create final written copy decks for assigned projects and route them appropriately
  • Stay current with new creative trends in brand storytelling and share them with the creative team
  • Understand the point of view of a consumer or dealer and craft insightful, highly relevant and inspiring copy for them. Get them to love Yamaha with communications and digital experiences that show you understand them.

 

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • BA in English, literature, journalism, or have attended a well-respected school in the advertising industry
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Copywriter at an Ad Agency or in-house agency with experience concepting and writing external and internal communications.
  • Able to interpret and write within brand guidelines and a defined tone of voice
  • Must have a portfolio demonstrating your ability to create advertising campaigns for known brands and the creativity required to present ideas, words, and visualizations that will intelligently represents clients’ needs
  • Must have demonstrated conceptual ability and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to turn sometimes complex technical content into easily understood and engaging copy
  • Strong ability to prioritize work based on short and long-term needs
  • Passionate about getting others involved and having fun along the way
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Strong critical and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Mac, MS Office for Mac (Excel, Word, Outlook) and cloud-based systems.
  • Knowledge of Workfront, MS Teams or any productivity/communications tool to stay on top of project tasks and deliverables
  • Experience collaborating and building solid relationships with creative and account teams
  • Excellent presentation skills and communication abilities at all levels of the Yamaha organization
  • Happy working in a fast-paced, creative, deadline-driven environment, often across multiple projects
  • Strong desire to contribute to our vision of “creating more music makers"
