Job Description

The Director of Pop Programming is responsible for Pop, the number one genre on Pandora, representing tens of millions of weekly unique listeners. Create new and innovative, culturally relevant content programs, to drive listeners and listening hours on the service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Curatorial Programming:

  • Program all of Pandora’s Pop stations, playlists, and mixtapes.
  • Curate and monitor performance of new music on the Pop genre stations and playlists.
  • Ability to interpret analytics to inform programming strategies.
  • Understand the relationship between curatorial and computational programming (the algorithm).
  • Develop innovative content and programming ideas to drive time spent listening. 
  • Ability to create and manage song categories and programming sequences.
  • Contribute to Competitive Analysis and strategic recommendations.
  • Establish and monitor metrics to evaluate Pop listening on Pandora.
  • Provide general support for Curators & Librarians with acquisition, meta-data development, and library projects.


  • Represent and advocate for programs and initiatives that seek to grow our presence and leadership in the music industry and specifically with the artists, managers and labels that drive the Pop and Mainstream music business.
  • Provide genre domain knowledge throughout Pandora. Partner with marketing, sales, comms, industry relations, and product when expertise in a genre will benefit all of Pandora.
  • Partner effectively with all other teams at SiriusXM and Pandora - specifically with the SiriusXM programmers and the Editorial and Industry Relations teams.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities initially.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years relevant experience curating, programming Pop for radio, or digital service.

Requirements and General Skills:

  • A history of radio programming experience preferred, with an understanding of radio formatics, categorizations, clocks and rotations.
  • Demonstrated track record and success in music programming, with focus on execution and driving results.
  • Solid industry relationships.
  • Deep knowledge of Pop history, culture, and production.
  • Good public speaking and presentation skills.
  • A collaborator, a team player, a problem solver that wants to win.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a history of producing high quality editorial content.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to utilize and develop data driven metrics and qualitative information.
  • BA or BS in relevant area preferred.
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

Technical Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Familiar with data dashboards and basic programming tools.
