Job Description

Under the supervision of the Communications and Marketing Director, the Communications Manager will be responsible for planning and coordinating the department workflow and ensuring the implementation of the campus’ communications strategy and marketing plan.

The Communications Manager will support the Director by supervising the team’s management, controlling the department’s annual budget efficiently and handling internal relationship with all the campus departments as well as with external providers and contractors.

This full time position combines media relations with both marketing, social media management competencies and writing skills in English, Spanish and Valencian to identify, create and generate news and editorial contents in a compelling style to a varied and diverse print and online communications channels as well as media in regional, domestic, and international territories.

At the same time, working very closely with the marketing and admissions teams, this position entails creating a wide array of editorial and audiovisual materials to support the campus’ enrollment efforts, as well as nurturing various Berklee and partner media, and supporting the promotion of events from concerts to festivals and conferences at a national and European level on owned, shared, earned, and paid media.

Among others, the Communications Manager will:

General

  • Execute the Campus’ communications strategy (online and offline), and the content marketing and social media plan to increase the visibility and reinforce the positioning of the college in line with its mission, vision, and values at a local, national and international level.

  • Manage the work of the department’s team and outsourced services resources.

  • Control of all campus editorial content and messaging and ensure continuity across all platforms while keeping up to date on industry trends and relevant issues in communications, social media, digital, mobile, and content marketing.

  • Supervise audiovisual content (photography, video) creation and curation in line with the communications strategy and content marketing plan.

Communications

  • Create and maintain relationships with the media and generate quality news coverage in print and online media and maintain media contacts database up to date.

  • Write and overview campus’ press releases applying strong journalistic skills, coordinate pitch news, interviews and feature writing for a variety of platforms and audiences in English, Spanish and Valencian.

  • Manage the regular gathering of media hits and analyze data to continuously enhance media coverage.
  • Organize media conferences or presentations; prepare press kits, including bios, fact sheets in Spanish and English, and any other necessary materials.

  • Oversee execution of the campus web strategy, general management of the site and coordination of SEO.

  • Ensure protocol requirements and media relations are met in specific events.

  • Oversee all internal communications, and train other departments to fully adhere to the college’s existing platforms for internal communications.

Marketing

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Berklee enrollment marketing team to better reinforce campus goals.

  • Audiovisual content creation and curation: Lead the audiovisual production (photography, video) efforts on campus in line with the communications strategy, content marketing and social media to better coordinate their distribution, campaigns as well as oversee the adaptations of visual creative materials for events promotion.

  • Coordinate Berklee produced and co-produced events promotion in owned, shared, earned and paid media, ensuring branding consistency across creativities and materials.

  • Manage Berklee Valencia production projects and promotional merchandising materials (brochures, PDFs, Tshirts, stationary, roll-ups, etc.)

 

Qualifications and skills:

We seek applicants who have a strong identification with the mission of the college, with a passion for music and for education, as well as a solid background in corporate communications, marketing and social media management, with very strong organizational skills and the capability to multi-task. Our Communications Manager will be interacting with members of the Berklee community constantly, so strong interpersonal skills and a passion for people is essential. In addition, applicants to this position will be in possession of the following:

· Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, advertising, or marketing necessary.

· Post-graduate studies specializing in corporate communications, marketing, or audiovisual production, a plus.

· A minimum of five years demonstrated international experience in the field of public relations and corporate communications including Media Relations, CSR and Social Impact, Branding, Reputation, Issues, Crisis, and Stakeholder Management, Non-Market Strategies, Digital Marketing and Programmatic Advertising and Content Marketing. Ideally with experience in music and/or education;

· Completely bilingual in English and Spanish, and fluent in Valencian or Catalan, both at an oral and written level.

· Strong journalistic skills in news and feature writing;

· Experience pitching stories, organizing media conferences, and interviews.

· Demonstrable experience at creating comprehensive editorial and audiovisual content creation.

· Proven record of managing a communications department budgets optimally.

· Research Methods in Communication and Marketing, Data Visualization, Communication Planning, Measuring Intangibles and KPI’s, media impacts reports, SEO,

· Knowledge of Indesign, photoshop, Wordpress, social media tools.

· Knowledge of Social Media management including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr, and LinkedIn.

· Tech savvy, eager to using a wide array of platforms and to incorporate new ones constantly;

· On top of the latest trends in digital content and audiovisual production; Technology Innovation, Customer-Centric Business, and Digital Transformation

· Office and administrative experience, including a working knowledge of various word processing, desktop publishing, database management, and spreadsheet systems.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate at all levels in an articulate, cordial, and professional manner.

· Be a self-starter with initiative and strong organizational skills, together with the ability to work under pressure in a focused, strategic fashion and follow assigned projects through to completion, both independently and in a team.

· Passion for music, and for education;

· Passion for storytelling and capacity to incorporate SEO in an organic, smooth way;

· Think analytically and leverage data for key decision-making.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to work  in a self-directed manner and under pressure in a focused, strategic fashion, following assigned projects through to completion independently and in a team;

· Proactive attitude, curiosity, adaptability and critical thinking;

· The ability to design and pursue detailed, complex communications plans;

· Positive attitude within the office and for working with students, faculty, and staff throughout the college, as well as partners and third party collaborators.

· Familiarity with contemporary music, music technology, and leading musical figures.

· Flexibility and willingness to travel, if necessary, and to work some nights/weekends, as circumstances require.

· Office and administrative experience, including a working knowledge of various word processing, desktop publishing, database management, and spreadsheet systems.

· Knowledge of Berklee’s programs in the Valencia and Boston campuses.
