IP Protection Team Leader (Manager)

Job Description

Universal Music Group’s Content Protection & Anti-Piracy department has an exciting opportunity available for an IP protection Team Leader to oversee the execution of UMGs (Universal Music Group) global content protection strategies and to assist in the enforcement of UMGs copyrights worldwide.  UMGs content protection department is unlike any other and this is a chance to play a pivotal role against IP (Intellectual Property) theft in the world's largest record label.

The Content Protection department provides support to all UMG labels worldwide. The environment is often fast-paced and allows for opportunities to work on a diverse array of projects related to the management of audio and video content as well as physical merchandise online.

As a Team Leader you will primarily be responsible for overseeing and guiding a small team whilst helping to evaluate the work output and quality of the regional team members.  In addition, the Team Leader will be responsible for reviewing and assessing UMG content using a variety of internal and external technologies.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5+ years work experience in either Music industry or Digital Media, Entertainment, Technology or related fields
  • 3-4 years experience within anti-piracy, copyright, or trademark infringement
  • 1-3 years experience either supervising or managing others in a prior role
  • Above average computer skills with a high proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and online collaboration tools.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Significant understanding of digital technologies, especially music platforms and mobile apps

  • Ability to communicate with users of all levels of experience; to work creatively, quickly, and effectively to produce results amidst shifting priorities.
  • Exceptional communication skills both verbal & written
  • Excellent presentation skills (e.g. PowerPoint) along with a willingness to think critically and speak publicly amongst peers and senior managers
  • Passion for music and digital music platforms!
  • Effective leadership abilities; including proper delegation, guidance, and performance monitoring.
  • Has a current understanding of a range of online piracy and file sharing issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of the relationships between ISPs, domain names, Whois, IP addresses, hosting providers, and internet governance overall.
  • Has creative problem-solving skills including the ability to work well with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Must possess the highest level of work ethic and integrity, with the ability to maintain confidential information.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Fluency in a second language, Chinese (Mandarin), Spanish, or Portuguese.
  • Understanding of and facility with Excel/Google Sheets, Google Analytics or other analytics tools.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of content protection tools, techniques and technologies.
  • Experience in development and/or database management (able to work with HTML, Java, Python, SQL, or other common programming languages)

Primary Job Functions:

  • Provide support to Senior Managers, where necessary.
  • Supervise all daily responsibilities and project assignments of the regional team.
  • Supporting other business units as required.
  • Manage team projects:
    • Communicating rulesets & policies.
    • Fielding questions posed by regional members of the team.
    • Collating reports on project progress for Senior Managers.
    • Conducting presentations and group updates, related to assigned team projects.
  • Assist Senior Managers with the onboarding and training of new team members.
    • Write and edit training & orientation documents.
    • Conduct training demos and field related questions.
    • Train of new team members.
  • Assess & review online uses of UMG & UMPG copyrighted works, to ensure compliance with our corporate policies.
  • Action unauthorized uses of UMG & UMPG copyrighted works, where deemed necessary.
  • Staying informed & abreast of digital trends, related to the recording industry.
